Kait vs AI

Let's all take a collective deep breath. I know we need it.

There's no actual way I'm going to be able to fit all of my thoughts in this one teeny blog, but I'm going to try my best. I'll start with what I've been doing this whole month and we'll go from there.

The 31 Days of May - A Challenge to Myself

If you follow me on social media (which you totally should - see the footer for links), then you should have seen what feels like a million short videos ranging from 5 to 90 seconds. Let me give you the what, the when, the why, and the how:

The What: mini paintings, themed on comments I see from r/isthisAI on Reddit.

The When: Every day for the month of May. It would be 31 paintings in total, but I've made multiple on certain days. Can't make it too easy, right?

The How: hand drawn and painted, using my hibiscus watercolor. Fully human made :)

The Why: Ok pause. This will take a second. I'll give you the short and then some more

Tl;Dr AI - generated 'art' is a menace, to artists especially but to everyone as a whole.

I can't make blanket statements because they're never fully true, but let me explain.

AI is making people paranoid

This one is... interesting. I'm starting with this one because it's the hardest to make blanket statements about.

What I've observed in the subreddit is that there are so many submissions of things that are OBVIOUSLY AI. Painfully so. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have people posting genuine artists work just because something feels 'off'.

You know what budding artists don't need? Someone accusing them of using AI. It was bad enough when people would accuse each other of tracing, but you never know how to take comments on AI. From some people, it's bad. From others, it's somewhat a compliment? But as an artist? It could be bad news.

There are now certain styles (which is an artist's livelihood) that are now considered 'AI Slop'-like. In other words, the people who would want a genuine artist to do said style are now very few. It's a very polarized thing, but I think it's leaving a bad taste in many people's mouths on those styles, which is such a shame.

AI is misplaced, trying to accelerate what should not be

Hear me out- life is too fast and frustrating as it is. I get the excitement for new tech, but trying to implement it everywhere for the sake of accelerating business or efficiency is just going to give people anxiety unless it's properly placed.

Again, let me explain. My current day job is in the tech industry and the world I've been well acclimated to is automating workflows and making things more efficient. Sounds good, right?

It definitely is, when it helps humans. When it allows us to do the work that matters most. When it allows us to enjoy the human parts of the business.

Where it's misplaced is when it generates junk. This could be images, video, code, or writing. This is no longer a matter of can it be done. The answer is technically 'yes' but with worldwide opinions getting so strong on the use of AI in the creative world, you could lose business from having the wrong thing in front of people.

And honestly? I love that. If someone writes a blog and it sounds creepily like many other people out there? Yuck.

Ideas and art should be human. AI can guide these, challenge them even. But I don't think AI should be holding the pen or the brush.

AI makes it easier to scam people

And it INFURIATES me. Scams will always be everywhere. Some scammers put forth a lot of effort and some just throw things to the wind. But one thing is SUPER clear nowadays - AI makes scamming much much much more accessible to everyone.

Previously, you'd need good research and good tech skills, like photoshop to pull off a lot of the stunts out there. But especially with art, where some random person can just generate a video based off of someone else's intellectual property and make it in such mass that it's hard to combat? Awful. Just awful.

Does AI have a place in the art world? I'd actually say 'yes'

But before you come at me with pitchforks, it's not what you think (probably).

AI is good as a tool for research. Particularly for those budding artists or artists opening a business for the first time with no knowledge of business or marketing. It is good at playing devil's advocate and challenging you to think deeper.

Life in 2026 moves pretty fast. So, for anyone with decision paralysis, finding resources online can be a big Goliath to tackle. Most search engines tap into AI to help people find the information they need faster. Is it perfect? Nope, and probably never will be. But again, it's a tool.

Learn to use it the right way, and it will help you grow. Use it the wrong way and it can do exactly the opposite - decay.

Not sure if you're using it for good? A good pulse is whether or not the ideas are coming from you. If not, then abandon ship.

Anyway, be sure to check out my series on my social channels! I've gotten a good kick out of making these videos but man, producing content like that is exhausting.
